GoFundMe is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Payments organization and build next-generation payments infrastructure capable of handling billions of dollars in transactions. This hybrid role is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
You will define and execute GoFundMe's multi-year payments engineering strategy, building scalable and innovative payment capabilities that grow giving and advance the company's mission. You'll lead and develop a team of engineers responsible for building and evolving reliable, secure, and scalable payments products and infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include partnering closely with Product Management, Design, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Operations, and external partners to identify opportunities and deliver solutions that improve the payment experience. You'll provide technical and architectural leadership, helping your team make sound decisions that balance scalability, reliability, maintainability, customer experience, and speed of delivery.
You'll lead complex engineering initiatives from conception through launch and iteration, establishing clear goals, managing dependencies and risks, and keeping distributed, cross-timezone teams and stakeholders aligned. Building a high-performing engineering team through hiring, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and career development is central to the role.
You'll create an environment of strong ownership and technical excellence, empowering engineers to make decisions, solve ambiguous problems, and continuously improve systems and engineering practices. You'll establish and maintain high standards for reliability, observability, security, testing, operational readiness, and incident response across payments systems, including participating in escalation for critical incidents.
Collaboration across engineering teams to evolve shared platforms and technical foundations is essential, ensuring payments capabilities can support new products, markets, and customer experiences. You'll communicate technical strategy, priorities, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Required qualifications: 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including experience managing and developing high-performing engineering teams. You should have a strong background building and operating payments, fintech, financial services, commerce, or other high-scale transactional systems. You'll have a track record of hiring, coaching, and growing engineers at different levels while creating an inclusive, collaborative, and high-accountability team environment. Strong technical judgment and experience guiding the architecture and evolution of complex distributed systems is essential. You understand the challenges involved in building reliable financial systems, including data integrity, consistency, resiliency, security, scalability, and operational excellence.
