Chainguard is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to lead the Libraries Automation team, responsible for building and maintaining secure open source software libraries trusted by Fortune 500 enterprises and industry leaders. In this role, you will provide vision, mentorship, and strategic leadership to a diverse engineering team working at scale across multiple language ecosystems.
Key responsibilities include guiding technical direction and product strategy spanning language ecosystems (Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, .NET), dependency management, security hardening, tooling, and AI-driven automation. You will set and oversee policies, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives, balancing world-class security practices with performance, stability, and customer value. The role involves owning development of artifact comparator gates, LLM-based judge rubrics, language-specific build systems, and novel AI automation to enhance the build and testing infrastructure for reproducible, auditable, and trusted library releases.
You will partner with engineering and product teams to ensure seamless interoperability and consistent security posture across the platform. External representation is also key—interfacing with partners, community maintainers, and driving adoption and awareness of Chainguard Libraries.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record managing and scaling technical teams with experience building or maintaining platforms at scale. You should have hands-on experience managing teams shipping agentic AI in production, including designing evaluation suites, LLM-judge rubrics, and expanding automation behind measurable quality gates. Strong grasp of language ecosystems, build systems, dependency management, release management, and vulnerability management is essential. Experience leading teams working with cloud-native technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, GCP, AWS, Terraform) is required. You are growth-minded, committed to helping engineers and organizations adapt as the technical landscape evolves, and skilled at anticipating future challenges while aligning technical work with business objectives.
