Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering consumers flexible buy-now-pay-later options without hidden fees or compounding interest. The company operates a large-scale, highly available global infrastructure shared across multiple financial products. The Infra Foundations team owns the foundational infrastructure layer that all other infrastructure teams build upon: AWS account provisioning, human IAM access, core networking, Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks and workflows, and cloud environment automation. The team's mission is to provide a consistent, reliable, safe, and trustworthy foundational infrastructure layer across all AWS accounts, empowering every infrastructure team to provision, update, and delete stacks quickly and safely through well-established workflows. As Manager of Software Engineering for Infra Foundations, you will lead this critical team, own its roadmap and operational health, and grow the engineers maintaining Affirm's infrastructure foundation as the company scales globally. Key responsibilities include: defining and driving the team's vision and multi-quarter roadmap, tying foundational investments to business-impacting outcomes while protecting space for tech-debt reduction and reliability work; leading and mentoring infrastructure engineers, fostering ownership and technical excellence, and owning hiring, performance, and career development; partnering with engineering leadership and stakeholders to align priorities with broader infrastructure, platform, and security goals; owning the reliability and safety of the foundational layer including AWS account provisioning, core networking (VPCs and interconnectivity), and human IAM access; driving the team's automation charter to deliver frameworks enabling other infrastructure teams to safely provision and manage complex stacks; stewarding critical operational programs including AWS quota management, AMI patch management, and Ansible-based configuration management; establishing operational standards including SLAs for IAM requests and incident response procedures; partnering with Security on least-privilege IAM enforcement; and driving adoption of Infra Foundations frameworks through self-service tooling and knowledge sharing. Required qualifications: 7+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience with 2+ years of engineering management; proven experience leading infrastructure or platform engineering teams; strong technical background in cloud-native systems and AWS with expertise in account architecture, VPC networking, and IAM; experience owning Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform, Spacelift, or equivalent) and GitOps workflows; track record building and operating infrastructure automation adopted by other teams; experience operating services with high reliability standards including monitoring, on-call, incident response, and postmortems; strong operational judgment and ability to drive clarity and execution across complex domains; familiarity with least-privilege IAM models and security governance; strong programming background (Python, Go, or Kotlin preferred); excellent communication and organizational leadership skills with mentoring experience; and bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
