Jobber is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to lead a team of talented engineers building AI-amplified solutions for small service businesses (plumbers, painters, landscapers). The company provides a platform for quoting, scheduling, invoicing, and payment collection, serving thousands of small businesses across North America.
In this role, you will report to a Senior Manager of Software Engineering and own the performance, growth, and technical direction of your engineering team. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and mentor team members in developing their technical skills and advancing their careers while contributing to Jobber's mission.
- Facilitate performance through 1-on-1s, goal-setting, constructive feedback, and coaching to ensure team success.
- Participate in recruiting and hiring to build a world-class engineering organization.
- Own your team's AI adoption strategy: set expectations for daily agentic AI usage, coach engineers across the adoption curve, and maintain quality standards for AI-assisted work.
- Remove roadblocks and create guardrails enabling rapid, high-quality delivery.
- Collaborate with Product, Business Technology, and other cross-functional leaders to solve problems.
- Balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight—get involved when needed to unblock teams and drive delivery.
You should have a strong track record as an established software engineer with proven leadership experience guiding teams in quality software delivery. Deep full-stack technical knowledge is essential, particularly in Ruby on Rails or ReactJS. You must have daily hands-on experience with agentic AI tools (beyond autocomplete/chat) and demonstrated success leading a team's AI adoption with measurable outcomes. Strong communication, agility in fast-moving environments, and mentoring ability are critical. Experience with the Jobber stack (ReactJS, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, GraphQL) and familiarity with high-risk data and reliability concerns are highly desired.
