Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Repayment UX team owns a critical, high-trust surface in Affirm's products—the moment customers repay loans. This full-stack team is based entirely in Europe within the same time zone and serves over 20 million users who collectively repay more than $40B in loans annually. The team owns the Manage tab in mobile and web apps, where customers track payment plans and make payments.
You will lead and grow a well-balanced engineering team, setting clear expectations, providing direct feedback, and developing engineers toward their next level. You'll own the team's technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to initiatives that build customer trust and drive Affirm's business. You'll empower your tech lead and engineers to maintain design and quality standards, supporting them hands-on through technical design and cross-functional alignment.
You'll own availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems, including on-call rotation, incident response, and reducing operational toil. You'll keep the team shipping in small increments, breaking large programs into sprint-sized milestones with clear, accountable owners. You'll partner across Product, Design, Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and participating in cross-functional efforts. You'll guide the team to multiply output through focus and leverage, including agentic AI.
You'll drive hiring and onboarding to grow a diverse, high-performing team and foster a culture of ownership, quality, and transparency. This role requires 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams. You should have proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity, with a track record of managing performance directly. You need technical judgment to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions, with the instinct to empower senior engineers. Experience leading significant technical initiatives end-to-end, ideally decoupling or re-platforming consumer-facing systems, is essential. Familiarity with modern full-stack development—declarative UI frameworks like React or React Native, and a backend-for-frontend—is required. You should have a calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity, building alignment and resolving tensions. You're a humble, team-first leader who builds high-trust, psychologically safe culture while prioritizing your own growth, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
