In this role, you will lead and grow a team of engineers building and operating Figma's data platform. You'll own delivery, technical direction, and team health while setting the roadmap and technical strategy for your sub-area. You'll provide hands-on technical leadership where needed, drive the reliability and scalability of the platform as adoption grows, and hire, grow, and coach engineers and tech leads to build a healthy, high-performing team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of engineers and managing delivery, technical direction, and team health
- Setting roadmap and technical strategy while providing hands-on technical leadership

- Hiring, growing, and coaching engineers and tech leads; raising the bar for team performance
- Partnering with Data Science, Product, Finance, and Engineering to identify high-leverage priorities and drive alignment
- Making sound build-versus-buy decisions and evaluating/managing platform vendors
- Balancing near-term execution with long-term platform investment while keeping delivery predictable
Required qualifications:
- 3+ years managing engineers, including senior ICs or tech leads, with a track record of building and scaling high-performing teams
- Demonstrated experience building and scaling data platform or data infrastructure systems in production, online environments
- Strong software engineering background with senior or staff-level technical depth before moving into management, with enough current depth to set direct technical direction
- Strong partnership mentality and ability to manage multiple cross-functional stakeholder groups (Data Science, Product, Finance, Engineering)
- Ability to set technical direction, drive alignment, and prioritize clearly under ambiguity with strong written communication
Desirable qualifications include expertise in large-scale data processing systems (batch, streaming, applied AI/ML workloads), experience with experimentation or feature flagging platforms, vendor evaluation and management experience, and experience growing tech leads and hiring at pace.
This is a full-time role based in one of Figma's US hubs (San Francisco or New York) or remote within the United States.
