New Relic is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Developer Platform organization in Bangalore, India. This role manages a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining New Relic's internal developer platform, security infrastructure, compliance and audit reporting systems, and the processes that enable the company's engineering fleet to release products effectively.
You will treat the internal developer platform as a product, defining roadmaps, managing backlogs, and prioritizing features based on internal engineer needs and business objectives. Key responsibilities include driving a culture of operational and business efficiency through secure code practices, CI/CD pipelines, unit and regression testing, uptime optimization, and data-driven decision-making. You'll design and promote "golden paths" that standardize development, deployment, and testing to reduce friction and foster self-service environments.
You will mentor and coach team members while driving recruitment, training, and development of top-tier talent in the region. The role requires regular collaboration with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements and execute initiatives. You'll participate in operational review meetings, bring postmortem learnings back to the team, and work in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment where teams build and maintain their own software, including second-layer support rotations.
Required qualifications: 10+ years of professional software development experience; BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent; hands-on coding experience in Golang, Java, JavaScript, or Python; 6+ years of people management experience; 5+ years with tools like Jenkins, ArgoCD, Temporal, Terraform, and Kubernetes; solid background in application/system programming, Infrastructure as Code, and Linux administration; deep understanding of security, reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of distributed systems on AWS, Azure, and GCP.
