NerdWallet is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a customer-facing product team building across React Native mobile and Next.js web experiences. The role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and involves managing a team of senior engineers while driving product strategy and execution.
You will own team outcomes, shape the product roadmap alongside Product and Design partners, and lead the team through an AI-native workflow transformation. The focus is on building compounding systems rather than one-off features, ensuring each new release benefits from prior work. You'll make high-quality trade-offs between polish and speed, maintain accuracy standards critical for financial advice, and lead the team through both product ambition and workflow evolution simultaneously.
Key responsibilities include: managing to a high performance bar with strong feedback and development practices; owning how the team plans, defines, builds, reviews, and tests in an AI-native environment; collaborating laterally with peer Engineering Managers; and making strategic calls on what to build, cut, and test. You'll partner with compliance and security on speed/reliability/risk tradeoffs and drive operating model improvements.
Required experience: 8+ years in software engineering with hands-on IC work; 2+ years managing engineering teams (not a first-time manager role); demonstrated ability to manage for outcomes beyond delivery dates; experience leading AI-native product teams with specifics on what broke and lessons learned; strong product and business instincts; track record of delivering hard feedback and developing high performers; technical credibility on modern web/mobile stacks; comfort with ambiguity; data-driven decision-making; and hiring/bar-setting experience.
Preferred: consumer fintech background; React Native, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Apollo experience; personalization/recommendation systems; compliance/security partnership experience; operating model definition; and informal manager coaching.
