Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Marketplace and App Experiences domain drives the core consumer strategy across iOS, Android, and Web platforms. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a well-balanced team of engineers, setting clear expectations, providing direct feedback, and developing each engineer toward their next level. You'll own the team's technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to major experience initiatives that build customer trust and advance Affirm's business, including large-scale redesigns and structural improvements to the consumer journey. You will empower your tech lead and engineers to maintain design and quality standards, supporting them hands-on throughout technical design and cross-functional alignment. You'll own the availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems, including on-call responsibilities, incident response, and reducing operational toil. You will drive alignment across multiple organizations and influence roadmaps on partner experience and foundational teams. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and participating in cross-functional efforts. Required: 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams. You must have proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity. You need strong technical judgment to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions, with the instinct to empower senior engineers. Experience leading significant technical initiatives end-to-end, ideally decoupling or re-platforming consumer-facing systems, is essential. Familiarity with modern full-stack development—declarative UI frameworks like React or React Native, and backend-for-frontend architectures—is required. You should have a calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity, building alignment and resolving tensions. You are a humble, team-first leader who builds high-trust, psychologically safe culture while prioritizing your own growth. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational influence skills are critical. A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience is required.
