AlayaCare is a fast-growing SaaS platform transforming home healthcare with cloud-based software used by 550+ employees across Canada, the US, Australia, and Brazil. The Manager, Software Development role reports to an Associate Director and leads one of the product engineering teams—either a customer-facing product team (scheduling, clinical documentation, billing) or a platform team building shared services and foundations. Key responsibilities include hiring, coaching, and retaining top engineering talent with clear expectations and frequent feedback. You will foster a high-trust culture emphasizing ownership, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning. You own the full software delivery lifecycle—from technical design through deployment and operations—and lead by example on engineering standards, quality ownership, and operational best practices. You are expected to be technical enough to challenge designs, review changes meaningfully, and judge risk, though you won't be the most senior technologist on the team. A core focus is establishing AI-first development as the default across specification, design, implementation, testing, code review, and production investigation. You will set guardrails ensuring clear human accountability, proportionate validation, meaningful tests, and heightened scrutiny of AI-generated code in security and business logic. You'll codify patterns into reusable rules and team standards, use engineering efficiency data to identify bottlenecks, and drive measurable improvements in areas like test generation and documentation. You will define and prioritize the team's roadmap in collaboration with Product Managers, deliver impactful features with strong focus on customer needs, and protect capacity for engineering health (refactors, upgrades, resilience, performance, test automation). You'll identify technical opportunities and risks, drive innovation and experimentation, and partner with Staff+ engineers to keep technical decisions aligned. Cross-functional collaboration with Customer Success, Support, and other stakeholders is essential to resolve complex customer challenges. Required: Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science or related field; 7+ years hands-on software development; 3+ years people management in a technical industry with strong cross-functional leadership. Experience building large-scale iOS/Android applications and familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS environments is a strong asset. Strong knowledge of AI-assisted development practices and a proactive approach to guiding teams in adopting them thoughtfully is expected.
