Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Propulsion team focuses on developing and delivering highly performant, manufacturable engines for Terran R. Engineers own the entire lifecycle of their parts, from initial design through production, qualification, and flight.
As Manager of Propulsion Development Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for engine system architecture, CONOPS trades, managing engine interfaces, negotiating requirements to optimize for the vehicle, and supporting overall engine system development. You may additionally support engine system analysis and simulation, engine testing, and tool development depending on team needs and your skillset.
You will bring deep technical acumen to system-level engineering problems and coach your team to do the same. You will balance time between supporting your team's growth and making direct technical contributions. Responsibilities include mentorship, project management, establishing priorities, communicating with leadership, providing technical guidance, and recruiting.
Leaders at Relativity are expected to be both people leaders and highly technical. You will serve as a mentor while learning from peers and mentors within propulsion and the broader company. The Aeon R engine is novel and has never been built before; every engine test presents new mysteries to solve and challenges to grow from.
Success requires leading collaborative projects to completion with minimal oversight, supporting your team in doing the same, and being a self-starter who continuously improves yourself and your team. You should care deeply about your team's growth and be invested in their development. This is a full-time, onsite role at the Long Beach factory with approximately 15% travel to test and launch sites. Critical milestones may require shifted schedules or weekend work.
