Middesk is building the data and intelligence infrastructure that helps businesses work together with confidence. The company provides a comprehensive platform for business verification, onboarding, and risk management, serving over 700 banks and fintechs. Beyond verification, Middesk helps companies form, register, manage, and maintain their businesses, supporting 50,000+ companies in setting up accounts for payroll, hiring, and compliance.
You will lead the Entity Operations team (5-7 people initially) supporting Payroll Tax Registration and Business Formations products, reporting to the Head of Product. This role sits at the center of operational complexity—registering companies for payroll taxes requires navigating jurisdiction-specific requirements across all 50 states, while business formations introduce additional workflows. Your team will handle complex cases, data issues, and exceptions that require investigation and judgment.
Key responsibilities include: leading and developing a high-performing operations team with clear expectations and strong operating rhythms; owning the operational health of Entity Management products to ensure accurate, timely, reliable outcomes; building scalable operations across complex government workflows spanning all 50 states and local agencies; establishing quality programs with metrics, controls, audits, and remediation processes; improving efficiency through process design, tooling, automation, and AI-enabled workflows; partnering closely with Product and Engineering to surface recurring issues and improve systems; managing internal and external BPO teams including training, quality, capacity, and escalations; and developing dashboards and measurement systems for throughput, quality, turnaround times, and capacity.
You should have 5-7+ years in operations, product operations, compliance operations, or regulatory operations involving complex workflows. Required experience includes leading and developing operations teams, managing outsourced/external operations (BPOs, vendors, offshore partners), systems and process thinking with a track record of improvement, strong analytical instincts using operational metrics, partnering with Product and Engineering on system improvements, high ownership in fast-moving ambiguous environments, and clear communication on complex issues. Nice-to-have experience includes payroll, business formation, government registrations, tax operations, compliance, fintech, legal tech, multi-jurisdiction workflows, and Series B/C startup environments.
