Helion is a fusion energy company on a mission to build the world's first commercial fusion power plant. Founded in 2013 and backed by $1.5B in funding from investors including Sam Altman, SoftBank, and Thrive Capital, Helion has achieved record-breaking plasma temperatures and is advancing toward its Orion prototype.
As Manager of Multistate Public Affairs, you will lead external stakeholder engagement across multiple states and national organizations to advance Helion's policy and business priorities in fusion energy and manufacturing. Reporting to the Senior Director of State & Local Affairs, you will build and maintain relationships with national industry associations, advocacy groups, policymakers, and influential stakeholders. You will develop comprehensive stakeholder maps across priority states, identify key influencers, and coordinate high-impact engagement opportunities.
Key responsibilities include leading strategy and execution for major conferences and convenings, personally managing preparation and follow-up to maximize impact. You will coordinate closely with state and regional leads to align external engagement with project and policy priorities, and partner with internal policy, communications, technical, and project development teams to ensure messaging consistency and strategic alignment. You will represent Helion in high-level meetings, working groups, and forums with senior government officials and organizational leaders.
The role requires 7+ years of experience in government affairs, public affairs, policy, or stakeholder engagement, with demonstrated success working across multiple states or at the national level with policy, regulatory, or political stakeholders. You must have proven ability to build and manage relationships with senior external stakeholders and credibly represent organizations in high-level settings. Strong political judgment, excellent presentation and communication skills, and cross-functional coordination abilities are essential. The role involves approximately 25% travel to support stakeholder engagement and company priorities.
