REGENT is building Seagliders—wing-in-ground-effect aircraft that travel just above water at 180 mph with 180-mile range on current battery technology. The company is scaling from prototype to full production and seeking a Manager of Mission Software to lead the software systems that crews depend on and vehicles use to operate safely. You will own mission software end-to-end across all REGENT vehicle programs, spanning four interconnected domains: (1) Crew and cabin systems—cockpit displays, crew alerting, audio, environmental control, doors, and lighting; (2) Mission and autonomy applications—mission planning, vehicle management, route management, and autonomy stack interfaces; (3) Test and ground systems—instrumentation, telemetry, ground station software, and data pipelines that convert test flights into engineering insights; (4) Vehicle software platform and operations—health monitoring, data management, communications, and over-the-air software deployment and updates. You will manage this scope across programs at different maturity stages simultaneously: active prototypes undergoing flight test today, and the first certified production vehicle where crew interfaces carry formal design assurance levels and regulatory evidence burdens. Key responsibilities include: building and structuring the team, hiring domain experts, and developing engineers; staying hands-on with code review and contribution where it matters most; setting technical direction across the four areas and deciding what gets built once versus what diverges by vehicle; matching engineering rigor to criticality—certification-grade discipline for crew-facing software, rapid iteration where learning dominates, and deployment mechanisms suited to each context; shepherding the cockpit interface from prototype to certifiable flight software; supporting test operations so that test days yield engineering answers within 24 hours; and integrating across vehicle disciplines (controls, embedded systems, simulation, autonomy, systems engineering, test) so the group's work lands as a coherent whole. You will need proven leadership experience building software for vehicles, operational systems, or test programs, with a track record managing engineers. You must demonstrate delivery accountability—owning team output, scoping work into milestones, driving completion, and handling people problems directly. Hiring and retention are central to the role. You need deep expertise in at least one of the four software domains and enough fluency across the others to set direction and review work credibly. Strong C++ design and coding skills are essential, plus Python for tooling and automation. Experience shipping software under aerospace, automotive, space, or comparable design assurance obligations (DAL-classified software is a plus) is required. Operational experience supporting real vehicles or live test campaigns is expected. A technical foundation in computer science, software engineering, robotics, or related discipline is necessary. Bonus qualifications include DO-178C display software or safety-rendering overlay experience, crew alerting systems expertise, cabin or vehicle systems software background, autonomy or mission-planning integration work, flight test instrumentation and telemetry practice, ground control station development for uncrewed or remotely operated vehicles, publish/subscribe middleware experience (DDS), and over-the-air update and fleet software deployment expertise.
