Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineering Manager to lead safety excellence for its missiles programs in Costa Mesa, CA. This role manages a team of System Safety Engineers and drives system safety across the complete product lifecycle—from concept design through production and field deployment. Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of 5+ system safety engineers, providing technical guidance on safety principles and artifact development. You will manage resource allocation, capacity planning, and recruiting to support growth across multiple concurrent programs. You'll conduct performance management, career development planning, and succession planning for your team. Technically, you will develop and implement tailored System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E and customer requirements. You'll define the System Safety organization's vision, goals, and framework to standardize development efforts and integrate safety processes across all product development stages. You will oversee and review complex safety analyses including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis (SCFTA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR). You will develop system safety requirements and collaborate with design teams to implement safety solutions. You'll support critical milestone reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) representing System Safety, liaise with customers and regulatory bodies on safety matters, and drive continuous improvement in System Safety processes. You'll ensure compliance with military and industry safety standards, contribute to proposal efforts, and provide management-level reporting on team performance and strategic initiatives. Required qualifications: B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent). 7+ years in System Safety Engineering with at least 1 year in a leadership role. Proven track record building and managing technical teams of 5+ engineers on complex advanced programs. Strong expertise in FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECA. Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, or equivalent safety standards. Experience with safety-critical hardware and software systems in defense or aerospace, preferably missiles, interceptors, or weapon systems. Experience setting up System Safety Engineering frameworks including early-stage Design for Safety and Hazard Analysis. Excellent cross-functional communication and strategic thinking. Eligibility to pursue and maintain U.S. security clearance.
