Datadog is seeking a Manager II, Developer Advocacy to lead the Community Advocacy functions within the Developer Advocacy team. In this role, you will manage a team of Developer Advocates responsible for global programs including Datadog Ambassadors, Champions, and User Groups, as well as opportunities for customer engineers to share expertise through technical writing, public speaking, and community contributions.
You will lead a team of Developer Advocates, setting clear expectations, guiding priorities, coaching performance, and supporting career growth in an inclusive, high-performing culture. You will own the strategy, goals, and roadmap for Community Advocacy, translating broader company priorities into focused programs with measurable outcomes. Your responsibilities include guiding the development of Ambassador, Champion, and User Group programs; building repeatable systems that enable customer engineers to contribute technical knowledge and serve as community leaders; developing a strong pipeline of customer stories by identifying compelling practitioners and helping them shape authentic narratives; and overseeing the support and coaching of conference talks by customer engineers for both Datadog events (including the flagship DASH user conference) and third-party industry conferences.
You will establish measures of success for Community Advocacy using qualitative and quantitative insights to evaluate program health, contributor engagement, content quality, audience impact, and customer outcomes. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Events, Customer Success, and regional teams to align priorities and scale customer participation. You will ensure insights from community members are shared with appropriate teams inside Datadog, strengthening the connection between customers and products. The role balances strategic leadership with selective hands-on contribution, including coaching speakers, reviewing technical content, and representing Datadog in community programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experienced people manager who has led autonomous technical professionals, coached performance, developed talent, and translated complex goals into achievable plans
- Experience defining and delivering successful developer advocacy, developer relations, technical community, or related functions
- Built or meaningfully contributed to programs that enable external practitioners to participate, contribute, create content, or lead communities at scale
- Experience helping technical practitioners develop and communicate their stories, including coaching conference speakers or co-developing technically credible talks and content
- Background as a former software developer, SRE, or other technical practitioner—or equivalent technical depth—with judgment to assess technical accuracy and coach effective technical narratives
- Thoughtful cross-functional leader who can build alignment, make prioritization decisions, and influence partners across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Events, and customer-facing organizations
- Uses both data and community insight to evaluate program effectiveness, identify opportunities, and make investment decisions
- Understands how to build trust with technical communities and values authentic practitioner voices over purely promotional messaging
- Comfortable operating through ambiguity, establishing structure where needed, and evolving programs as the company grows
