The Security Libraries team at Datadog owns customer-side integrations for runtime security products including App & API Protection, Workload Protection, and Code Security. These capabilities ship across seven open-source language libraries (.NET, Java, Go, Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP) and HTTP proxy integrations (Envoy, NGINX, HAProxy), running in thousands of production clusters worldwide.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 4-8 library engineers, balancing hands-on technical contribution with people leadership. You'll set the technical bar and team culture while driving the pace of new detections and AI-assisted capabilities to customers. Recent work spans exploit prevention (RASP), WAF detections, API Security, code security (IAST and SCA), and AI-assisted onboarding.
Key responsibilities include: leading and developing your team through coaching and direct feedback; owning team delivery, productivity, planning, and on-call rotations; setting product direction with Product Management across multiple security domains; staying technically close to the work with strong technical judgment and code contributions; building cross-functional relationships with language teams, product, backend, and frontend partners; and shaping team identity and culture.
You bring experience managing engineering teams, setting direction with Product Managers, and owning backlogs and delivery. You have a senior software engineering background with strong technical judgment and a proven track record developing people at all levels. You're comfortable with cross-team communication and driving alignment across stakeholders. Experience building libraries, SDKs, developer tooling, or systems/runtime software is essential. You've worked pragmatically with Product Managers, weighing technical trade-offs against customer impact.
Nice-to-have qualifications include application security background (WAF, RASP, IAST/SCA), hands-on experience with one of the supported languages or open-source stewardship, and experience leading distributed or multi-language teams.
