Datadog is seeking a Manager to lead the Coordination Systems - Storage team, a core infrastructure group responsible for foundational distributed systems building blocks used across the company. The Storage team provides essential configuration storage and distribution systems depended upon by nearly every service and pod at Datadog, powering critical runtime configuration (feature flags), complex control planes (dynamic sharding), and more.
You will lead a team of 5 engineers (distributed, with majority based in NYC) and own the full scope of team operations. Responsibilities include running team ceremonies, prioritizing and delegating projects, staying hands-on with code through isolated features and small remediations, and actively participating in incident response and root cause analysis. You'll champion a culture of operational excellence through gamedays, operational reviews, and proactive reliability initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings strong distributed systems expertise with deep understanding of failure modes, end-to-end observability, validation testing, and simulation. You have prior experience on platform teams providing critical infrastructure to internal stakeholders, and a track record of handling significant incidents both as a responder and follow-up owner. Strong cross-team collaboration, stakeholder management, and coding fundamentals (including performance optimization and profiling) are essential.
This role offers opportunities for growth—successful candidates may lead other high-impact areas such as Resource Protection. Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace, valuing office culture for collaboration while supporting work-life harmony. The company offers competitive equity (RSUs), professional development, mentorship programs, inclusive culture with employee resource groups, mental health benefits, and comprehensive global benefits.
