Salary: USD 200,000 - 250,000 / annual
Datadog is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Cloud FinOps team, which owns the platform allocating Datadog's cloud costs to products and customers. This team's output is critical to Finance (for closing books), Product (for cost-to-serve analysis), and Engineering leadership (for cost tracking).
In this role, you will lead and grow a team of engineers building systems that answer a fundamental business question: what does each product and customer actually cost to serve? You'll own delivery across the runtime pipeline, coverage onboarding, and cost-to-customer identity mapping. The core engineering challenge is reproducibility—every dollar of cloud cost must be placed against the product and customer that caused it, with full lineage and closed periods that replay exactly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing an engineering team focused on cloud cost allocation and financial data platforms
- Owning the publication contract with Finance: versioned metrics with effective dates, backfill, and reproducible history for reliable month-end close
- Establishing metric contracts with platform teams across Engineering, enabling cost ownership to shift to the teams generating the costs
- Partnering with Revenue Engineering on cost-to-revenue identity joins that calculate margin per product and customer
- Driving continuous improvement in cost coverage and accuracy while holding delivery commitments with cross-functional teams
- Reducing key-person risk by spreading ownership across the team and leveraging AI tooling to increase team velocity
You should have experience managing data platform or data engineering teams building batch and pipeline systems judged on correctness and reproducibility. Ideal candidates have shipped versioned publication systems, held delivery commitments across team boundaries, and bring domain expertise in metering, usage-based billing, cloud cost, or financial data platforms. Experience with audited systems (SOX scope, month-end close, revenue recognition) or retrieval-grounded systems where every answer cites its source is valuable. You'll operate independently on the external half of the job—setting contracts, negotiating boundaries, and driving the roadmap without a dedicated product manager.
