Datadog is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of Applied Scientists building AI/ML capabilities for the Product Analytics suite. The suite spans Product Analytics, Session Replay, Feature Flags, and Experimentation, providing product teams with quantitative and qualitative insights into user experience.
You will lead a greenfield team tasked with researching, prototyping, and industrializing AI/ML capabilities that make the suite proactive and agentic by default. Key focus areas include AI-driven event understanding and instrumentation, conversational analytics, automated insight reporting, and UI/UX issue detection from session replays. The vision is to enable product teams to move autonomously from question to insight to safely released change without depending on engineering or analysts.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading and growing a team of Applied Scientists
- Defining technical vision and roadmap for agentic and proactive AI/ML capabilities
- Staying hands-on as a technical contributor and code reviewer
- Partnering with product and engineering leadership to shape how AI capabilities are built and delivered
- Hiring and onboarding Applied Scientists as Datadog scales AI/ML investment
- Representing team progress and priorities to stakeholders
You should have experience as a technical leader with a background in applied AI/ML, ideally with hands-on research or applied science experience. People management experience (established or early-stage) backed by strong technical credibility is essential. You're comfortable operating in greenfield ambiguity, defining direction where little exists yet. Experience taking ML/AI capabilities from research prototype to production—ideally in analytics, NLP, or user-behavior domains—is valuable. Strong communication skills to translate technical AI/ML concepts for non-technical stakeholders are required.
Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace, valuing office culture for collaboration and creativity while enabling work-life harmony. The company offers competitive benefits including stock equity, professional development, mentorship programs, and global mental health benefits.
