Datadog is seeking a Manager I for Engineering to lead the Training & Serving team within the AI Platform organization. This is a new and fast-growing team responsible for building AI infrastructure that enables data scientists and engineers to conduct large-scale training and inference at scale. The team supports products including Bits AI, LLMObs, and Datadog's AI research initiatives. In this role, you will directly manage 10+ engineers and be responsible for building and scaling the team while defining the technical vision and roadmap. Key responsibilities include managing and growing the team, defining the technical roadmap in alignment with AI platform goals and the Applied AI team, working with core platform teams to tailor Datadog's storage, infrastructure, and data pipelines, creating a strong team culture aligned with engineering standards and customer focus, and participating in hands-on technical work including code reviews, design reviews, and some coding. You will work closely with sister teams in the AI platform organization to ensure a seamless AI development cycle, and partner with the Applied AI organization and Datadog infrastructure & tooling teams to build systems from the ground up. The team will tackle critical technical challenges including distributed training of foundation models, serving at scale, and designing user experience. The ideal candidate has 1+ years of experience leading software engineering teams as a tech lead or people manager, with strong technical expertise in backend, data engineering, and infrastructure. You should be an excellent leader with strong interpersonal skills, capable of building and leading high-performing teams. Experience with early-stage projects, cross-functional partnerships, delivering high-quality software on schedule, and working in ambiguous and fast-paced environments is essential. Demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows and validate AI-generated output is required.
