Anthropic is seeking a founding Manager for Forward Deployed Engineering to build and scale a new team embedded with strategic enterprise customers. This is a player-coach role combining hands-on technical leadership with people management at a critical inflection point for the company's enterprise AI adoption strategy.
You will hire and develop a world-class team of Forward Deployed Engineers who embed directly with customers to ship production AI applications using Claude. Your responsibilities span team building, technical oversight, customer engagement staffing, and translating field insights back into product improvements. You'll conduct regular 1:1s, provide technical mentorship, review architectures and code, and stay hands-on enough to lead discovery sessions and debug complex issues alongside your team.
Key responsibilities include: hiring and retaining top FDE talent; developing team members and creating an environment for career growth; staffing and overseeing customer engagements across your portfolio; collaborating with sales and engagement teams during pre-sales to qualify and scope work; ensuring high-quality, production-ready solutions; building repeatable playbooks and knowledge bases from field learnings; defining team OKRs tied to customer success; establishing operational cadences; partnering with Product and Engineering to drive product improvements; and traveling to customer sites 25-50% of the time, especially during engagement kickoffs.
You'll be defining what good looks like for FDE management at Anthropic with no existing playbook to follow. This role requires thriving in ambiguity and being energized by building from zero to one. You'll work at the frontier of enterprise AI deployment, directly influencing how Anthropic serves its most strategic customers and shaping product direction through your team's field insights.
