Salary: USD 154,700 - 260,000 / annual

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations to harness IoT data for actionable insights across physical operations including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing. In this role, you will lead a team of approximately 5 firmware and ML engineers responsible for building, optimizing, and deploying AI models on Samsara's fleet and industrial devices. Your team's work directly impacts real-world safety—determining whether drivers receive collision warnings before accidents occur. Key responsibilities include: - Providing hands-on technical leadership, contributing directly to design, implementation, and optimization of high-performance production systems - Setting the technical bar for edge ML and embedded systems, guiding architecture decisions on latency, power, memory, and model performance - Partnering with Product, Hardware, and Full-stack teams to move AI capabilities from concept to deployment on devices in the field - Shaping quarterly roadmaps that balance product ambition with engineering health and deliver maximum customer impact - Building a high-performing team culture centered on ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement - Scaling Samsara's culture globally as the team expands, championing principles around customer success, long-term thinking, growth mindset, inclusivity, and teamwork - Hiring and developing top talent, defining what great edge AI engineering looks like at Samsara Samsara's AI has helped prevent accidents affecting an estimated 380,000 people annually. Every dash cam, gateway, and industrial sensor runs AI at the edge, detecting distracted driving, preventing collisions, and keeping workers safe in real time on constrained hardware. The scale is massive: millions of AI dash cams, 100B+ miles per year across ~99% of U.S. roads, and 25T+ data points. This is a fully remote position open to US-based candidates. The role offers hands-on technical leadership with direct impact on products protecting real drivers on real roads. REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: - 3+ years of hands-on, execution-oriented technical management experience - 8+ years of experience in embedded systems and edge machine learning development - Proven track record managing a team of engineers that has shipped a mass production product - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a diverse, fast-paced, customer-focused environment - Experience deploying CV/ML models on edge devices in real-world applications Ideal: - Experience working on products from concept to mass production - Proficiency in C/C++, Rust, or similar programming languages - Proficiency in gstreamer, Google MediaPipe, or similar edge AI/Media frameworks - Experience with data analysis using tools such as Databricks, SQL queries, Tableau - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field
