Docker is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead two interconnected backend engineering teams: Secure Build and SCS Services. Secure Build owns Docker Build Cloud and Docker Hub Automated Builds, building the infrastructure for trusted container builds with focus on isolated execution, secret management, and supply-chain security. SCS Services powers Docker Scout and Docker Hardened Images, operating polyglot backend systems (Clojure, Go, Kafka, Spanner) that transform supply-chain data into developer-facing experiences. This is a two-team leadership role requiring portfolio management across separate roadmaps and technical domains while maintaining unified delivery. You will own team health, performance, growth, and operational excellence for both groups, making trade-off decisions that keep them effective and preventing either from becoming deprioritized. You will stay technically engaged without owning every decision—participating in design reviews, code reviews, and incident response while coaching senior engineers and Staff-level engineers to drive technical direction. The role requires substantive understanding of distributed backend systems, event-driven architectures, build infrastructure, CI/CD, trust boundaries, and production operations. You'll balance new product work against inherited systems and on-call responsibilities, investing in reliability improvements driven by operational pain. Key responsibilities include: shaping coherent portfolio plans with explicit priorities and capacity; partnering with Product on strategy for secure build, Docker Scout, and Hardened Images; owning team interfaces, trust boundaries, and contracts between services; managing engineer growth, performance conversations, hiring, and succession planning; and aligning cross-functional partners (Product, Design, Security, Sales, Support, Legal) while protecting teams from context-switching. Docker is a globally distributed, remote-first organization with 20+ million monthly users and 20+ billion monthly container image pulls. The company is positioned at the center of how AI agents will reshape software development, providing sandboxed environments and verified infrastructure for trustworthy autonomous workflows.
