Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, seeks an experienced System Safety Engineering Manager to lead safety excellence for Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS) and Air Defense programs at their Costa Mesa, CA headquarters.
You will manage a team of System Safety Engineers, providing technical guidance and mentorship on system safety principles, best practices, and artifact development. Responsibilities include resource allocation and capacity planning across multiple concurrent programs, recruiting to support growth, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
Key technical responsibilities span the complete product lifecycle: developing and implementing tailored System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E; defining and communicating the organization's vision, goals, and framework to standardize development efforts; overseeing complex safety analyses including Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis (SCFTA), and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR); developing system safety requirements and collaborating with design teams on safety solutions; supporting Milestone Reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR); liaising with customers and regulatory bodies on safety matters; and driving continuous improvement in processes and methodologies.
Required qualifications include a B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering; 7+ years in System Safety Engineering with at least 1 year in a leadership role; proven track record building and managing technical teams of 5+ engineers on complex programs; strong background in FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECA; extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and JSSSEH standards; experience with safety-critical hardware and software systems in defense or aerospace (preferably rotorcraft, aircraft, or weapon systems); experience establishing System Safety frameworks including early-stage Design for Safety and Hazard Analysis; excellent cross-functional communication and influence skills; strategic thinking balancing technical and management work; and eligibility to pursue and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
