Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Components team is responsible for all fluid control devices across Terran R, from propulsion to stage systems, enabling integrated and informed design approaches.
In this role, you will manage a high-performing team of component design engineers aligned with program milestones. You will apply your leadership skills to create vision and direction for the team, and leverage your personal technical experience to guide the designs of every fluid control device on the rocket. You will create strong working relationships with partner teams including Production, Test, and Stage and Propulsion Engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and develop a team of component design engineers
- Define, scope, and schedule required actions to deliver qualified components to vehicle and engine integration teams
- Establish design requirements aligned with program goals
- Lead highly technical and collaborative projects to completion with minimal oversight
- Support team execution of engineering tasks including design of novel cryogenic, pneumatic, proportional, and solenoid valves
- Perform detailed structural and thermal fluids analysis
- Recruit, develop careers, and mentor engineers
You should thrive in ambiguity and be capable of leading complex technical work. With design, manufacturing, and test assets co-located, you'll see firsthand how designs perform and iterate quickly based on real-world data. The team continuously advances products, developing novel clean-sheet designs for upcoming vehicle and engine upgrades while improving existing designs for enhanced performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
