sennder is Europe's leading digital freight forwarder, redefining road logistics through a unified platform that powers the entire business. The company is transitioning from acquisition-driven growth to an outcome-driven, AI-native organization. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will join a highly talented ML team working on applied, research-oriented machine learning projects with direct business impact.
The role is approximately 70% data science and statistical exploration, 30% ML engineering. You will own projects end-to-end, from R&D and prototyping through production deployment. Key responsibilities include: optimizing the pricing engine through bid estimation and margin-optimization algorithms; building predictive models for carrier behavior and market capacity forecasting; maintaining and improving recommender systems; exploring new ML applications in logistics (routing, network optimization); partnering with Product Managers on discovery and ideation; integrating LLMs and AI agents into workflows and products; collaborating with the Data & AI Platform team on MLOps infrastructure; and ensuring continuous monitoring post-deployment.
You will work directly with end-users, operators, and Product Managers to understand workflows and drive product direction. The closed-loop advantage of owning platform, operations, and data creates a compounding competitive edge in margin, cost, and service.
Required: 5+ years hands-on experience in Data Science or ML Engineering. Strong statistical foundation (hypothesis testing, data exploration, regression/classification). Production deployment experience with modular code and software engineering best practices. Proficiency in Python, SQL, Git, cloud data warehouses (Snowflake), Jupyter Notebooks, and data visualization tools (Streamlit, PowerBI). Solid understanding of LLM setup, evaluation, and production deployment. Business acumen to translate logistics problems into data-driven solutions. Strong collaboration and communication skills.
The role can be based in Berlin, Barcelona, or Amsterdam offices. sennder offers vibrant workspaces with healthy snacks and social areas, a fast-paced hybrid environment with 1,100 colleagues from 74 nationalities, well-being programs (sennCare), and growth/rewards initiatives.
