Hugging Face is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Xet Storage team, responsible for the storage infrastructure powering the world's largest AI model hub. The platform hosts over 200PB of ML and AI assets, serving 11+ million users across models, datasets, and Spaces.
In this role, you will contribute to xet-core, an open-source Rust project that powers the hf-xet Python library underpinning the Hugging Face Hub client and ecosystem. You'll design, build, and operate high-performance features in the Xet Storage backend as part of the Infrastructure organization. The team operates at enormous scale in a high-trust, low-process, async, fully remote environment, leveraging AI tools to move fast.
You'll work on low-level, high-performance systems code addressing challenges in distributed storage, networking, and scalable services. This includes designing efficient data storage and retrieval systems, operating production infrastructure with monitoring and alerting, and debugging complex distributed systems.
Required: 8+ years building and scaling distributed systems, storage, or networking infrastructure. Proficiency in a low-level systems language, with Rust strongly preferred (Python, TypeScript, Go, C++ also used). Proven ability to work independently in high-trust, low-process environments with comfort in ambiguity and end-to-end ownership. Experience operating in fast-moving, async, fully remote settings.
Bonus experience includes designing fault-tolerant data storage systems, operating production systems with monitoring and recovery, familiarity with git internals, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes), databases (relational and non-relational), or networking.
