Salary: EUR 55,000 - 65,000 / annual
Airbnb is seeking an experienced Localization Manager for the Italian market, based in Milan. This is a strategic leadership role that goes beyond traditional translation management to shape how millions of users experience the platform globally.
You will join the core regional leadership team, partnering closely with the Country Manager and function leads across Marketing, Legal, Business Operations, Policy, Communications, Community, and Supply to devise business strategies aligned with Airbnb's goals in Italy. Your responsibilities include:
• Develop and own localization strategy for the Italian market, adapting global product and marketing strategies to local needs while feeding market insights back to regional and global leadership
• Serve as the linguistic and cultural expert, proactively influencing stakeholders to deliver authentic native user experiences across all platforms
• Own localization of product naming and creative copy, engaging local teams to build Airbnb's brand in the Italian market
• Drive localization quality improvement initiatives, holding translation and QA vendors accountable to Airbnb's quality standards
• Collaborate with Consumer Insights and Research teams to understand the needs of Airbnb's Italian users
• Develop and maintain linguistic and cultural standards and guidelines for the market
• Supervise the local Copywriter and collaborate with Creative teams on content production
• Work with Localization Program Managers and Linguistic QA Managers to ensure high-quality product launches
• Coordinate language feedback from both users and Airbnb employees
• Manage multiple stakeholders across business units and leadership levels with strong communication and presentation skills
This role requires someone who can work at both strategic and tactical levels, execute in ambiguous environments, and balance competing priorities across functions and time zones.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 8+ years in product localization with proven track record of owning localization strategy in international launches, managing language quality, and content localization
• Fluency in English and native knowledge of Italian (mandatory)
• Experience building market strategies informed by thorough market research and data analysis
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and partnership-building capabilities
• Ability to show initiative, work independently, and drive strategic initiatives
• Strong understanding of UI/UX localization (placeholders, tags, smart counts), CAT tools, i18n libraries, CLDR standards, and LLM-based machine translation
• Outstanding project/program management and stakeholder management experience, with experience working across cross-functional teams and time zones
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Track record as a self-starter, self-motivated, outcome-oriented individual who seeks ownership and accountability
• Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
