Snowflake is seeking a Localization Engineer to join its Tokyo office and lead the company's global localization and product translation efforts. This role combines software engineering expertise with localization domain knowledge to build and optimize Snowflake's localization infrastructure. Key responsibilities include designing and building a full-stack AI translation platform with scalable web applications, backend services, and data pipelines. You will integrate large language models (LLMs) into core localization workflows to drive process automation, enhance content reuse, and support intelligent quality assurance. You'll establish comprehensive QA frameworks and provide technical support to ensure robustness, reliability, and observability of localization pipelines. Beyond engineering, you will innovate localization strategy, lead complex technical projects across their entire lifecycle, and manage vendor relationships while overseeing budget planning to ensure high translation quality standards. The role requires thinking big and developing solution-based approaches to deliver best-in-class localization across Snowflake's products. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, with 5+ years of software development experience in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or Go. You must demonstrate strong system design skills, experience architecting scalable high-availability web applications and backend services, and familiarity with AI-assisted coding workflows. Conversational fluency in both English and Japanese is essential for cross-functional communication. Nice-to-have skills include hands-on experience building LLM workflows, prompt engineering, or multi-agent frameworks (especially LLM-based translation), solid understanding of SQL and relational databases, familiarity with localization standards like XLIFF and Translation Management Systems, and direct experience gathering user feedback to iterate on product features.
