Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. Kaleidos is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases, capable of running for up to 5 years without refueling. As a Loads & Dynamics Engineer, you will own structural loads, vibration, and dynamic analyses for Kaleidos and supporting hardware. You'll ensure structural integrity across the entire product lifecycle—manufacturing, transportation, handling, deployment, and operations. Key responsibilities include developing static, dynamic, and transient loads for reactor systems and transport configurations; performing structural dynamics analyses (modal, random vibration, shock, sine vibration, fatigue); implementing explicit dynamics simulations for nonlinear reactor response under seismic and transportation events; defining transportation and handling environments; generating load cases for structural sizing and verification; conducting finite element analyses using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools; collaborating with design, thermal, and nuclear teams on hardware architecture and material selection; supporting test planning and correlation including shaker tests and modal surveys; developing analysis documentation for internal reviews and regulatory interfaces; contributing to failure investigations and design improvements; and establishing best practices for loads and dynamics verification. Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering; 2+ years in loads, dynamics, or structural analysis for complex mechanical systems; strong fundamentals in structural mechanics, dynamics, and vibration; FEA experience with metallic and composite structures; proficiency with ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran; knowledge of design allowables, safety factors, and margin-of-safety methodologies; ability to communicate analysis results to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desired: aerospace, launch, defense, nuclear, or heavy industrial experience; dynamics modeling software (LS-Dyna, Abaqus explicit); shock and vibration testing background; fatigue and fracture mechanics knowledge; bolted joint analysis; environmental specification experience; Master's or PhD; familiarity with nuclear or safety-critical system requirements. Role requires 100% onsite work at El Segundo headquarters and willingness to work extended hours and weekends.
