Graphcore is seeking a Linux Engineering Lead to build and operate the Linux platforms that power the company's engineering infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll lead a small team of Linux engineers while driving automation, reliability, and operational excellence across the Linux infrastructure used by Graphcore's engineering organization.
You will own the reliability, performance, and scalability of engineering Linux environments, leading incident response, driving operational improvements, and setting standards for how Linux systems are managed and supported across the organization. While the role includes leadership responsibilities, it requires a hands-on approach initially, including direct involvement in troubleshooting, system support, and automation efforts while building team capability and scaling processes.
Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring a team of Linux engineers, owning reliability and performance of engineering Linux environments, driving adoption of Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps practices, building automation to reduce operational overhead, leading major incident response and root cause analysis, partnering with software and platform teams, establishing standards and tooling for efficient scaling, improving observability and monitoring, and helping define the future direction of Linux platform engineering at Graphcore.
Essential qualifications include significant experience administering Linux environments at scale, strong troubleshooting skills across systems, networking, storage and applications, experience leading engineers or operational initiatives, strong automation and scripting skills (Python, Bash or similar), experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform or Puppet, experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines, experience managing production incidents and driving operational improvements, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable experience includes supporting AI, HPC or large-scale engineering environments, experience with observability platforms and monitoring systems, experience working alongside platform engineering, SRE or DevOps teams, knowledge of identity and access management, and experience building or scaling operational processes. Graphcore is part of the SoftBank Group with significant long-term investment backing.
