Valar Atomics is redefining clean energy by making advanced nuclear power scalable and deployable. The company is building factory-made, high-temperature nuclear systems for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. Their first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate the viability of advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication.
The Licensing Engineer III is a senior individual contributor within the Regulations & Safety organization, responsible for developing and owning assigned portions of nuclear license applications and safety basis documents. This role requires deep technical expertise in nuclear regulatory frameworks and the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder documentation efforts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Authoring assigned application and safety basis content in compliance with governing regulations, standards, and guidance documents
- Building and maintaining compliance matrices and regulatory conformance descriptions, including graded-approach positions
- Extracting and organizing content from source documents with proper traceability, then coordinating subject-matter-expert (SME) review and approval
- Identifying required SME inputs and managing active review cycles within defined scope areas
- Resolving regulatory comments and feedback to closure
- Setting documentation standards and mentoring junior licensing staff
- Coordinating across engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to ensure alignment
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in nuclear licensing, strong technical writing skills, familiarity with NRC or equivalent regulatory processes, and the ability to manage complex documentation workflows independently. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to directly shape the regulatory pathway for next-generation nuclear technology.
