Wintermute is one of the largest crypto-native algorithmic trading companies in digital assets, providing liquidity across cryptocurrency exchanges, OTC trading solutions, and supporting blockchain projects and traditional financial institutions entering crypto. The company combines high-frequency trading standards with startup culture and holds a long-term view on digital asset market innovation.
You will support Wintermute's rapidly growing derivatives business and expansion into traditional financial markets, with a focus on OTC derivatives. Working closely with senior legal colleagues, traders, and teams across risk, compliance, and operations, you will take ownership of negotiations and projects across jurisdictions where Wintermute operates, helping shape approaches that balance business growth with legal risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate and draft commercial agreements relating to derivatives offerings, including ISDA Master Agreements, credit support documentation, trade-specific confirmations, and financial infrastructure agreements (tri-party custody, collateral, prime brokerage, clearing documentation); coordinate stakeholder input and drive contracts to completion
- Conduct direct negotiations with counterparties and their counsel as required
- Perform legal and regulatory research and work with external advisors to define legal and regulatory requirements for trading in various products and jurisdictions
- Deliver practical, commercially focused legal advice
- Participate in projects outside OTC derivatives based on professional development interests and company needs
The role offers accelerated responsibilities and ownership compared to traditional finance, a vibrant working culture with team events, a central London office with amenities, and a non-hierarchical, collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer in England and Wales, preferably with 3–5 years' post-qualification experience as a derivatives lawyer (strong candidates with different experience levels or equivalent common-law qualifications will be considered)
- Training at a Magic Circle firm, leading US law firm, or other leading international firm with recognized derivatives practice strongly preferred; candidates who trained in such practices and moved in-house at banks, broker-dealers, hedge funds, or trading firms also considered
- Must have experience negotiating ISDA Master Agreements and related credit support documents (both English and New York law governed)
- Ability to document OTC derivatives transactions (swaps, options, forwards) across multiple underlying asset classes
- Familiarity with securities lending and repurchase master trading documentation
- Experience with prime brokerage, custody, clearing, and other financial infrastructure documentation highly desirable
- Ability to work effectively in high-performing settings under tight deadlines
- Helpful: understanding of regulatory frameworks and their application to OTC derivatives in various jurisdictions in traditional financial markets
