OpenArt AI is seeking its second in-house lawyer to join a fast-growing AI creative platform. The company helps millions of users create images, videos, stories, ads, and other creative content with AI. OpenArt ranks #12 on a16z's Top 50 Consumer AI Apps by Monthly Revenue, was selected for the 2026 Disney Accelerator, and was recognized by Notable Capital's Prosumer AI 40. This is a generalist legal role with significant scope and autonomy. The first lawyer, John Belcaster, has handled a diverse portfolio including licensing agreements across countries; patent preparation; immigration; corporate governance; collaboration deals with film directors, musicians, and studios; U.S. trademark office matters; AI-powered legal workflow creation; state and global tax issues; enterprise sales contracts; data privacy and information security; financings; and more. You can specialize in any area that interests you—whether contracts (customer, vendor, partner, creator), privacy, IP, product counseling, employment, or legal operations—or take on a broad portfolio. The role is designed to fit how you work, not force you into a predetermined box. You might own contracts end-to-end (intake, draft, negotiate, close, file) and build systems and templates so the team scales without constant legal involvement. Or you might focus on whatever you're passionate about learning. The team is small with direct access and no layers. You'll sit in the rooms where decisions happen. OpenArt runs legal on AI tools for drafting, review, research, and triage. The company believes AI will make lawyers faster and more effective, and is looking for someone who shares that vision. The culture values curiosity quotient and passion quotient over raw intelligence. You don't need to know what's next or have a predetermined career path—in fact, comfort with ambiguity and preference for discovery is a plus. REQUIREMENTS: - Legal background and bar admission (implied by role as "second lawyer") - Experience level is flexible: 25 years, 25 months, or 25 weeks of legal experience are all considered. The company welcomes lawyers at any career stage. - Comfort with generalist work across multiple legal domains - Ability to work independently and take ownership - Interest in AI tools and their application to legal work - Curiosity and passion for learning new areas of law
