HoneyCoin, a cross-border payments and stablecoin company operating across Africa, is hiring a mid-level Legal & Compliance Associate to lead document review and regulatory work across French-speaking African markets, including Senegal and Cameroon. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of legal and compliance work for Francophone Africa expansion. You'll review, redline, and negotiate NDAs, commercial contracts, and regulatory documents in both French and English, ensuring deals and licensing applications move without legal delays. You'll prepare and manage license applications and regulator correspondence with bodies like BCEAO, BEAC, and COBAC. You'll also draft and improve contract templates, build a bilingual playbook of standard positions and red lines, and translate legal documents accurately for submission or signature. Beyond contracts, you'll track regulatory changes in French-speaking markets, flag implications for products and licenses, review AML/CFT policies and KYC procedures for local compliance, and manage company secretarial work for Francophone entities (incorporation, filings, board resolutions, statutory registers). You'll manage external counsel across multiple markets—scoping work, checking output, and controlling costs—while supporting country managers, partnerships, and operations teams with fast, practical legal guidance. You'll maintain a live tracker of all documents and filings you own, with status, blockers, and next steps. HoneyCoin values high agency and self-drive. You should own outcomes, not just tasks; move without being chased; find a way when regulators go quiet or counsel is slow; learn fast in unfamiliar legal environments; and be reliable enough that people trust your review before signing. The company looks for evidence of initiative: something you started without being asked, a problem you solved outside your job description, or a result you delivered with minimal guidance. Some travel is expected. The role is remote but based in Douala or Dakar preferred, with openness to other major Francophone African cities. REQUIREMENTS: • Law degree; bar admission or equivalent professional qualification welcome but not required • 3–6 years of experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts (law firm, in-house, or compliance function) • Professional-level French and English, written and spoken; ability to redline contracts, write to regulators, and conduct negotiations in either language • Sound commercial judgment; ability to separate real risk from noise and identify points worth fighting for • Clear, concise writing; ability to summarize complex agreements into actionable summaries for non-lawyers • Working knowledge of at least one Francophone African legal environment PLUS (desirable): • Fintech, payments, mobile money, banking, or digital assets experience • Hands-on payment or e-money licensing work, or direct dealings with BCEAO, BEAC, COBAC, or national regulators • Knowledge of OHADA company and commercial law • AML/CFT, data protection, or sanctions compliance experience • Experience managing external counsel across multiple countries
