Bitwarden is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and development of next-generation privileged access management (PAM) and AI identity solutions. You will own critical gateway services, terminal access protocols, and auditing/enforcement systems at the intersection of security, scalability, and user experience. In this role, you'll operate under Bitwarden's "True Ownership" model as a T-shaped professional, owning services end-to-end from initial design and secure development through automated testing, deployment, and operational health in production. Key responsibilities include: • Design and develop secure, performant gateway controls, audited terminal logins, and session recording mechanics for the PAM product line • Maintain strict service boundaries and design resilient APIs enabling PAM to operate as an independent, decoupled tenant on core platform infrastructure • Partner with cross-functional "Embedded Trio" (Product, Design, Engineering) in rapid design and validation cycles • Build and maintain robust automated test suites, integration harnesses, and CI/CD pipelines • Own operational health, performance, and reliability telemetry in production, including on-call rotations and postmortem participation • Create high-quality internal architecture specifications, API contracts, and external open-source developer documentation You bring 10-15 years of software engineering experience with team lead exposure. Required technical skills include strong proficiency in C#/.NET, Rust, or TypeScript with AI-led development experience. You have practical expertise in secure gateway architectures, reverse proxies, and session proxying (SSH, RDP, HTTPS), plus deep understanding of Identity and Access Management, key-rotation protocols, and real-time audit logging. Additional qualifications: hands-on experience with Docker/Kubernetes, automated testing frameworks, SRE/observability tools (APM, alerting, telemetry), zero-trust and zero-knowledge security architectures, encryption standards, and threat modeling. You're collaborative, adaptable, passionate about open source and developer advocacy, and excel at written communication and data-driven decision-making. This is a fully remote position for US-based candidates. No visa sponsorship available.
