Klaviyo's Platform Engineering team is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to set technical direction for core platform services that power the entire engineering organization. You will own the infrastructure primitives, tooling, and guidance that enable thousands of engineers to build, ship, and operate with confidence.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with the systems you build. Key responsibilities include: building deep understanding of engineering needs across the organization and designing appropriate platform primitives; setting technical vision and multi-year roadmap for core platform services; owning design, development, and evolution of foundational infrastructure that product teams depend on; leading cross-team initiatives to improve availability, scalability, latency, and cost-efficiency; identifying architectural bottlenecks and leading solution design; leveraging Python, Go, AWS, and Kubernetes to advance the platform; championing best practices including technical design review and configuration as code; driving cost-optimization efforts; mentoring senior and mid-level engineers; and evolving on-call practices with focus on root-cause resolution.
You will work across core infrastructure, observability, databases, and queuing systems. Your work will be highly visible and directly shape how Klaviyo's engineering teams build products. The role requires balancing the platform's long-term vision with practical needs of product teams, and you'll partner closely with security and product engineering leaders.
Required qualifications: 10+ years designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems with proven technical leadership track record; deep hands-on experience with Python and/or Go in production; extensive cloud-native experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and containerized platforms (Kubernetes); strong Linux and networking fundamentals; experience across platform domains (API gateways, observability, asynchronous processing, databases); proven ability to independently own complex cross-team initiatives; strong mentoring and technical influence beyond immediate team; excellent technical communication and design documentation skills; comfort handling complex systems during outages.
