Beacon AI is building an AI platform to enhance aviation safety, efficiency, and capability. The company is backed by top investors, holds a dozen Department of Defense contracts, and partners with major airlines to deliver mission-critical systems.
As Lead Frontend Engineer, you will drive technical leadership and strategic direction for the frontend team. You'll design and implement React-based features that integrate with the flight safety platform, enabling users to interact with complex aviation data and derive actionable insights. Key responsibilities include architecting frontend systems to handle large-scale real-time and historical aviation data, mentoring engineers, and establishing best practices through code reviews and architectural discussions.
You will partner closely with backend engineers, product managers, and UX/UI designers to make informed design and implementation decisions. You'll ensure reliable, maintainable systems through automated testing, clear documentation, and strong engineering standards. You'll also build reusable components and internal libraries to accelerate future development and analyze/optimize frontend performance for scalability, responsiveness, and reliability.
Required qualifications include 5+ years building and shipping high-performance user-facing web applications, deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, state management, and modern web standards. You should have strong experience with asynchronous frontend patterns and efficient handling of live and historical data streams. Proven ownership of complex features or product areas, driving work from concept through delivery with high autonomy, is essential. You'll need a proactive, resourceful mindset to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and consistently set a high technical bar through design decisions, code quality, mentorship, and hiring input.
Bonus qualifications include passion for aviation, experience with geospatial/mapping tools (Mapbox, Cesium), deep experience with live data streaming and playback systems, and experience with video streaming technologies and real-time media delivery.
This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite.
