Apptronik is developing Apollo, an AI-powered humanoid robot designed to collaborate with people in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. As Lead Software Engineer for Dexterous Manipulation, you will own the technical strategy and architecture for the robot's hand control and multi-fingered coordination capabilities. You will serve as the technical authority for dexterous manipulation, responsible for creating the long-term roadmap and ensuring hand control capabilities exceed industry standards. Your core responsibilities include designing foundational software frameworks that balance autonomous logic with high-fidelity teleoperation, directing the integration of state-of-the-art research (reinforcement learning, imitation learning, diffusion-based policies), and leading the sim-to-real strategy for policy deployment across the physical fleet. You will influence hardware design specifications for next-generation robotic hands, defining requirements for sensing, degrees of freedom, and torque profiles. You'll oversee the transition from experimental research to production-level deployment, ensuring C++/Python code reliability across fleet assets. Beyond technical execution, you'll act as a force multiplier, mentoring engineers, fostering a culture of technical rigor, and setting architectural standards across the organization. Required expertise includes deep knowledge of multi-fingered hand control, grasp planning, and in-hand manipulation with proven hardware deployment experience. You must be proficient in Python and experienced building real-time robotic software stacks. Strong background in learning-based control (flow/diffusion policies, reinforcement learning, reward modeling) and physics simulation environments (IsaacSim, MuJoCo, Drake) is essential. Desirable skills include robotic kinematics, VR/haptic teleoperation interfaces, tactile sensing integration, computer vision (6D pose estimation, point clouds, visual servoing), and hardware bring-up experience. This is a high-impact role at a Series B company working on transformative robotics technology.
