Nuna is building an AI health coach designed to help the 130 million Americans managing chronic conditions. Unlike traditional healthcare's 15-minute clinic visits and unused portals, Nuna's coach uses motivational interviewing to help patients and families understand their situations, design experiments that fit their real lives, and navigate a healthcare system that hasn't historically served them well.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will own meaningful product areas end-to-end: designing, building, shipping, and operating them in production. You'll work on the core systems powering the AI coach—including AI/agent logic, backend services, and the data infrastructure supporting them. You'll make architecture and trade-off decisions within your domain with high autonomy while helping raise the engineering bar across the team.
Key responsibilities include owning features and services end-to-end, leading and mentoring small engineering teams, driving alignment between product, design, data, and engineering, making architecture decisions for AI/agent and product systems, writing high-quality observable code, and treating privacy and security as core to the work. You'll break ambiguous product problems into shippable work and make pragmatic trade-offs to deliver.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years of industry experience, proven experience leading small engineering teams, and strong full-stack capabilities (backend services, APIs, integration). You should be comfortable operating what you build—testing, deployment, observability—and navigating ambiguity. Clear communication across cross-functional teams is essential. Bonus experience includes Kotlin, TypeScript, React, Flutter, AI/LLM product systems, healthcare data, mobile development, or early-stage consumer product shipping.
