New Relic is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Infrastructure product organization. You will design, build, maintain, and scale next-generation backend services that power observability across distributed systems at enterprise scale.
In this role, you'll own the development of critical infrastructure services, including control planes for data pipeline management, vulnerability management, and security testing capabilities. You'll work with a diverse tech stack including Go, Java, JavaScript, React, GraphQL, and Kubernetes, processing data at massive scale across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building scalable backend services and supporting tools
- Participating in architectural decisions with emphasis on innovation and creativity
- Creating automation and tooling to improve system scalability and deployment
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to solve customer and partner challenges
- Researching emerging tools and services to address complex scenarios
- Operating in an agile, DevOps-oriented environment where teams own their software end-to-end, including on-call rotations
You'll bring 9+ years of hands-on experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and production-scale systems. Strong proficiency in Go is essential (non-negotiable). You should have cloud platform expertise (AWS, Azure, or GCP), proven ability to deliver production code in agile environments, and a collaborative approach to code ownership. Basic React frontend skills and experience designing distributed solutions for complex problems are required.
Desirable qualifications include Terraform/IaC experience, Temporal workflow orchestration knowledge, GitHub administration, Go CLI tool development, DSL familiarity, open-source contributions, CI/CD pipeline expertise, and experience mentoring engineers. Async programming skills and event-driven architecture knowledge are valued.
