Bankjoy, a Y Combinator and Bessemer Venture Partner-backed fintech startup, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own the technical direction and execution of its Online Account Opening (OAO) and Online Loan Application (OLA) products—strategically critical, revenue-driving product lines serving community banks and credit unions. This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining architecture ownership, team leadership, and direct engineering contribution. You will architect scalable, secure, and compliant systems for financial institution workflows; lead a high-performing engineering team through mentorship and code review; and work cross-functionally with Product, Design, QA, and client stakeholders to deliver fast, conversion-optimized account opening and loan origination experiences. Key responsibilities include: - Owning technical direction and architecture for OAO/OLA products, ensuring compliance with KYC/AML, identity verification, and regulatory requirements - Leading solution design, quarterly planning, and architectural decisions aligned with product and business goals - Architecting integrations with core banking systems (Corelation, Jack Henry Symitar, Fiserv Portico, CU Answers) and third-party vendors (identity verification, fraud detection, e-signature) - Breaking down initiatives into milestones, managing scope, dependencies, and technical debt - Contributing directly to backend development (C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, SQL Server) and frontend work (TypeScript, Angular) - Leading and mentoring engineers through 1:1s, performance feedback, and hands-on coaching - Fostering collaborative team culture emphasizing quality, ownership, and continuous improvement - Partnering with Product, Implementation, Client Success, and QA to shape roadmap and ensure smooth client go-lives - Establishing monitoring, alerting, and observability practices for production reliability - Participating in on-call rotation and driving incident response and retrospectives Required qualifications: 8+ years software engineering experience with at least 2 years in technical leadership; domain expertise in digital account opening, loan origination, or banking technology (non-negotiable); strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, SQL Server, Angular, and TypeScript; proven experience building and integrating with core banking systems and financial APIs; ability to architect scalable, secure, compliant systems in regulated environments; experience leading engineering teams; strong understanding of KYC/AML compliance and data privacy; cloud infrastructure, containerization, microservices, and CI/CD experience; must be available for Eastern Time Zone hours; comfortable in high-growth startup environments. Nice-to-have: direct credit union or community bank platform experience; familiarity with specific core banking integrations (Corelation Keystone, Jack Henry Symitar, Fiserv Portico, CU Answers); experience with Plaid, Socure, Alloy, DocuSign, or similar identity/verification tools.
