Bankjoy, a Y Combinator and Bessemer Venture Partner-backed fintech startup, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive technical direction and execution of a new kids and family financial empowerment product. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will own the architecture, lead a small high-performing engineering team, and collaborate closely with Product, Design, and QA to build secure, scalable, and delightful products for families. You will be responsible for technical leadership and architecture, designing systems that meet financial industry standards for security, compliance, and data privacy. You'll lead solution design and quarterly planning, guide architectural decisions aligned with product and business goals, and provide technical guidance and code reviews to maintain engineering best practices. On the execution side, you'll break down initiatives into milestones and deliverables, manage scope and dependencies, monitor delivery progress, and balance business value with long-term system health. This is not a purely managerial role—you will contribute directly to coding, testing, and debugging. You'll build backend services using C#, .NET Core, and SQL Server, develop frontend components using TypeScript and Angular, and guide mobile app development as the product expands. Team leadership is central to the role. You'll lead and mentor engineers through 1:1s, performance feedback, and hands-on coaching, foster a collaborative team culture emphasizing quality and ownership, and hire and onboard talent as the team grows. Cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, QA, and platform/security teams is essential to shape roadmaps, define scope, and ensure compliance. You'll also oversee quality practices including unit test coverage, integration testing, and CI/CD pipeline quality, establish monitoring and observability practices for production reliability, and participate in on-call rotation with clear incident response processes. Required qualifications: 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or lead engineer role. Domain experience in banking, payments, financial wellness, or financial empowerment is mandatory. Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, SQL Server, Angular, and TypeScript is required. You must have proven ability to architect scalable, secure systems in regulated financial environments, experience leading engineering teams, and strong understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy. Cloud infrastructure, containerization, microservices, and CI/CD experience is expected. You must be available to work Eastern Time Zone hours. Nice-to-have skills include mobile app development (iOS, Android, React Native, MAUI), consumer-facing financial app experience, familiarity with credit union or community banking platforms, financial wellness/budgeting background, and experience integrating with core banking systems or third-party financial APIs.
