Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable, backed by top investors with a dozen Department of Defense contracts and partnerships with major airlines. The company operates as small, focused teams that own what they build, ship quickly, and learn fast. You will design and build advanced pilot assistance software that supports flight safety platforms, developing autonomy, robotics, and embedded systems for real-world, safety-critical aviation environments. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and deploy robotic and embedded software powering advanced pilot assistance systems in production. - Own autonomy-related features or subsystems end-to-end, driving work from concept through deployment with focus on reliability and performance. - Write, review, and maintain high-quality Python and C++ code across autonomy, systems, and embedded components. - Integrate software with hardware, sensors, perception, and data ingestion pipelines to support autonomous and operator-in-the-loop decision-making. - Optimize software for edge compute environments, managing CPU/GPU usage, latency, and implementing safety mechanisms and fail-safes. - Lead testing, validation, and deployment efforts to ensure systems meet safety-critical and mission-critical requirements. - Mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration. You should have 5+ years designing and deploying robotic software and/or embedded systems in production. Strong C++ and/or Python skills with systems-level or embedded programming experience are essential. Experience building real-time or interactive systems supporting time-sensitive user decisions, familiarity with autonomy systems (planning, decision-making, reasoning), and hands-on work with embedded or edge compute platforms are required. Bonus experience includes safety-critical or mission-critical systems in aviation or robotics, ROS/DDS middleware, human-in-the-loop systems, or advanced mobility and autonomy backgrounds. This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite. Full-time employees receive comprehensive healthcare (100% employee medical premiums covered, 25% for dependents), 3 weeks PTO plus 13+ paid holidays, monthly phone and wellness stipends, and 401(k).
