Beacon AI is building an AI platform to make flying safer, more efficient, and more capable, backed by top investors with a dozen Department of Defense contracts and partnerships with major airlines. The company operates as small, focused teams that own what they build, ship quickly, and learn fast. You will design and build advanced pilot assistance software that supports the flight safety platform, developing and deploying autonomy, robotics, and embedded systems that operate in real-world, safety-critical aviation environments. You will take ownership of mission-critical functionality, contribute hands-on across the stack, and mentor a small team while delivering reliable systems that support time-sensitive decision-making for human operators. Key responsibilities include: designing, building, and deploying robotic and embedded software for production environments; owning autonomy-related features or subsystems from concept through deployment; writing, reviewing, and maintaining high-quality Python and C++ code across autonomy, systems, and embedded components; integrating software with hardware, sensors, and perception or data ingestion pipelines; optimizing software for edge compute environments with appropriate safety mechanisms; leading testing, validation, and deployment efforts for safety-critical requirements; and mentoring engineers while contributing to technical direction. You should have 5+ years of experience designing and deploying robotic software and/or embedded systems in production environments, strong software engineering skills in C++ and/or Python with systems-level or embedded programming experience, and experience building real-time or interactive systems supporting time-sensitive user decisions. Familiarity with autonomy-related systems (planning, decision-making, reasoning) and integration with perception or sensor pipelines is essential. Hands-on experience with embedded or edge compute platforms and debugging hardware/software interactions is required. You should demonstrate proven ability to deliver complex systems end-to-end in fast-moving, ambiguous environments. Bonus qualifications include experience with safety-critical or mission-critical systems in aviation or robotics domains, familiarity with ROS or DDS middleware, experience supporting human operators in the loop or real-time control systems, and background in advanced mobility, autonomy, and robotics. This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite with flexibility to work remotely on remaining days.
