Apollo GraphQL is seeking a Lead Revenue Accountant to own the order-to-cash engine end-to-end, spanning subscription and usage-based revenue models. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with significant cross-functional reach across Revenue Operations, Deal Desk, Product, and Engineering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the complete order-to-cash process from order creation through invoicing, collections, and cash application, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contractual terms
- Managing revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, including monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
- Supporting and maintaining technical accounting memos and schedules for revenue recognition (ASC 606), capitalized commissions (ASC 340-40), internal-use software (ASC 350-40), and leases (ASC 842)
- Leading new billing and revenue system implementations, driving accounting requirements and maintaining cross-functional alignment
- Creating and deploying automation workflows to reduce process cycle times in invoicing and collections
- Partnering with Deal Desk and Product on new SKU launches to ensure systems and processes are ready pre-launch
- Assisting with monthly and quarterly close activities, including revenue reconciliations and sales tax reporting
- Supporting annual financial audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Managing collections, overseeing dunning processes, monitoring AR aging, and conducting outreach on past-due accounts
The role emphasizes building and modernizing systems rather than maintaining existing processes. You'll work to put automation and AI to work streamlining reconciliations, reporting, and the broader revenue stack.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including billing, accounts receivable, and revenue accounting at a high-growth SaaS company
- Working knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles
- Experience building and utilizing automations for process improvement
- Track record of building accounting processes and systems with clear vision of end goals
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable owning longer-term projects alongside day-to-day tasks
- Strong collaboration skills and cross-functional partnership experience
- Experience with NetSuite and modern billing and collections systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets for reconciliations and analysis
Nice to have:
- CPA or actively pursuing CPA licensure
- Public accounting experience
- Exposure to technical accounting topics such as capitalized commissions, internal-use software, or lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Experience supporting financial statement audits
