Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. The reactor can operate for up to 5 years without refueling and is positioned to replace diesel generators in critical infrastructure applications.
As Lead Reactor Operations Engineer, you will direct a team of Reactor Operations Engineers and serve as a hands-on technical leader. Your responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and growing the Reactor Operations Engineering team while setting technical priorities aligned with test, commissioning, and operational milestones
- Qualifying as a Kaleidos Reactor Operator yourself to gain firsthand operational experience and ensure team work aligns with real-world execution
- Establishing conduct of operations and fleet monitoring processes for Kaleidos reactors
- Supporting development of control algorithms for semi-autonomous and manual operations
- Evaluating integrated plant response to various events, accidents, and malfunctions
- Participating in design reviews and providing feedback from operations and maintenance perspectives
- Ensuring all team deliverables meet DOE and NRC standards with strict attention to procedural documentation formatting, clarity, and usability
- Recruiting, hiring, and developing engineering talent to scale the team with company growth
This is a 100% onsite role at El Segundo headquarters with 50-60% travel as needed for projects. You must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of full-time professional engineering experience, including system design, analysis, or testing, with 2+ years in a formal or informal technical leadership role
- Familiarity with interrelationships and dependencies of reactor systems (nuclear, mechanical, I&C, and electrical systems) and their response as an integrated power plant system
- Licensed as Senior Reactor Operator or Naval equivalent
- Ability to apply first principles thinking to solve problems in uncertain or ambiguous situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Background in highly regulated industries (nuclear, aerospace, aviation, maritime)
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams, managing risk decisions while remaining hands-on
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience working as an operator in nuclear environments (nuclear energy, naval reactors, radiation-controlled facilities) with familiarity in safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and high-reliability operations
- 3+ years of full-time nuclear operations experience
- Hands-on experience developing technical procedures, human factors engineering, or operational interface design
- Prior operations background such as mission control room operator
