Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual
Cowboy Space Corp. is building orbital infrastructure to power and connect the space economy. Founded in 2024 by Baiju Bhatt (Robinhood co-founder) and backed by leading investors, the company operates satellites in Low Earth Orbit for on-orbit compute power, space-to-earth and space-to-space energy transmission via infrared lasers, and secure optical data delivery.
The Propulsion team seeks a Lead Propulsion Analyst to lead advanced engineering simulation efforts across structural, fluid, and thermal disciplines. This role develops, maintains, and enforces modeling standards and best practices for Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and thermal analysis.
Key responsibilities include conducting and documenting static, thermal, dynamic, and fatigue analyses for rocket engines and vehicles using state-of-the-art modeling and first-principles engineering. You'll collaborate throughout engine component design cycles, ensure model predictions align with reality through hands-on validation, work closely with hardware and test teams to anchor models and drive improvements, and produce quality documentation to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field. Strong experience with engineering simulation and numerical analysis methods, 0-D and 1-D thermal/fluid networks, simulation platforms like ANSYS and/or Thermal Desktop, and solid understanding of engineering fundamentals.
Preferred qualifications include experience developing enterprise-level simulation standards and engineering processes, familiarity with aerospace, defense, automotive, energy or industrial certification environments, Python scripting knowledge, excellent communication skills, and ability to deliver against aggressive schedules.
The role is located onsite in Kent, Washington (Seattle area). Compensation includes $150,000–$200,000 annually, equity, comprehensive health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, 10 paid holidays, paid parental leave, and relocation assistance. ITAR compliance required: U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident status needed.
