Edrolo is a leading Australian EdTech provider serving over 200,000 students, 17,000 teachers, and 1,000 schools across Years 7-12. The company delivers comprehensive teaching and learning resources including textbooks, video lessons, exams, analytics, and dashboards.
The Lead Product Designer is Edrolo's most senior design practitioner, reporting to the Head of Product & Design. This is a senior individual contributor role within a small, cross-functional team that collaborates closely with Engineering, Education, and customer-facing teams. The role does not manage direct reports but leads through influence and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
**Problem Framing & Discovery:** Transform ambiguous requests into validated, prioritized problems. Conduct rigorous discovery with teachers, students, and school leaders through interviews, in-context observation, and concept testing. Pair qualitative insights with product analytics (Mixpanel, Omni) to identify user friction points and validate behavioral impact post-launch.
**Design Quality & Systems:** Own interaction quality, accessibility, and visual coherence across the product. Steward the design system as shared infrastructure with engineering, balancing system purity against user and business value trade-offs.
**Engineering Partnership:** Eliminate handoffs by involving engineers at problem framing and remaining engaged through implementation. Prototype in code when it provides clearer answers, leveraging AI tools as standard practice throughout the design process.
**Team Capability & Mentorship:** Mentor product designers through critique and specific feedback on product judgment, research rigor, and craft. Drive measurable improvement in team capability over time as a core accountability.
**Outcomes Accountability:** Set success measures before build and conduct post-launch reviews for all significant work. Accountability centers on whether work moved outcomes for teachers and students, not merely on shipping.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (office and home) with regular school visits required. Full-time, max-term contract. WWCC (Working with Children Check) required.

- Senior-level design expertise with demonstrated ability to lead discovery on high-priority, ambiguous product opportunities
- Strong research and validation skills (qualitative and quantitative)
- Proficiency with product analytics tools
- Experience with design systems and accessibility standards
- Ability to partner effectively with engineering teams and prototype in code
- Mentoring and team capability-building experience
